When Darksiders first came out in 2010, it promised an apocalyptic epic quest that was inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and would have similar combat mechanics with Devil May Cry. At the time, gamers were head over heels for War's journey through the scorched New York City, as they slapped around some boys with his comically huge sword, and did some God of War-style fatalities on big bosses. In 2010, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 really did not have too many Zelda-esque adventures to offer, and if anyone wanted some quality hacking and slashing, the only options were Bayonetta or Devil May Cry 4, so something like Darksiders caught a lot of attention. It was liked enough that it got a confusing and lacking sequel, a remaster, and a tragically disappointing third game on eighth generation consoles.
